When I heard a teaching on the Green Tara
Practice the devotees lined up to receive
The gift with incense and a silk kata.
The Elders washed our mouths and hands to clean
Away sins and karma from our past lives.
Not mothers, they said it was just symbolic,
But we as children knew this was the trick
To life: stay clean speak well and be ever kind.
